Volunteer Management

Many organizations depend on the efforts of volunteers. Utilizing volunteers not only guarantees that a large amount of work will get done, but if done properly, will connect the volunteers in a more powerful way with the organization. Volunteer management consists of the following tasks:

  • Delineate the responsibilities of everyone involved
  • Keep track of the functioning of all committees
  • Manage committee meetings including agenda design, RSVP´s, reports
  • Communicate among all chairs and committees making certain that everyone knows what the other is accomplishing
  • Be prepared to take over if the committee is not functioning properly

Event Management

Candy Berman & Associates specializes in working with not-for-profit organizations to utilize events as a component of their overall development plan. In other words, we are not merely "event planners;" we understand the strategy behind the events that are hosted and produced by not-for-profit organizations and the long-term benefit to the visibility and development of an organization. Events are often used to educate the public about the organization’s mission, send a specific message, honor leaders, network and create new relationships. Most importantly, events help the organization to fundraise. With this in mind, below is a summary of our services and our general approach to not-for-profit events.

Logistics
Create a timeline and keep it in check. What good is an event if your guests do not get their invitations in time? Secure the designer, printer and mail house for the invitations, program and other signage early.

  • Hire a GOOD caterer. People will remember the food.
  • Consider AV needs. Lighting and sound can really add to the mood and the drama of the event.
  • Err on the side of Simplicity. It is not always necessary to have lots of bells and whistles to get the message across. We always remember that we are a non-profit. Donors do not want their contributions spent on extravagant items. As resourceful and creative people, we understand how to help our clients get the impact they want within a reasonable budget.
  • Keep the length of the program down. If it is a business event, the shorter and to the point, the better! People will arrive at least 15 minutes late or leave 15 minutes early to go to their next appointment. No one has ever left an event and said that it was horrible because it was too short.
  • Day-of logistics. We assist with the little details that are easy to forget but can make a significant impact on the success of your event including speaker transportation, hotel, flight arrangements, media coordination, VIP receptions and more
  • Incorporate enhancements when possible. Some of our clients have the luxury of adding extra items to make their event a more enjoyable and memorable experience. For example:
    • Complete marketing and communications plan that ties event to other initiatives
    • Auctions employed for additional revenue
    • Unique items such as centerpieces for the luncheon tables; take away gifts for guests, etc.
    • Appropriate entertainment or other creative services
